The Virginia Museum of Transportation chronicles the state's unique transit history with an impressive collection of road vehicles, rolling stock, and model trains. Outside, steam, electric, and diesel locomotives lie next to vintage automobiles; inside an elaborate model train layout coexists with more antique cars and trucks, and also aerial craft like an airplane and a gyrocopter. The museum takes up two floors in the downtown area, just south of Washington Park.
