At the O. Winston Link Museum, visitors can explore the physical beauty and influence of railroads on American industry and culture through the photographs of one of the nation's most famous railroad photographers. Focused on images of the Norfolk and Western train project in the 1950s, these images represent the end of the steam train era on these rails. Seven different gallery areas use different methods and images to bring these images and moments to life, like the films and artifacts seen in the Roanoke Gallery and the city-by-city layout of the photographs in the Radford Gallery. See some of the actual equipment that link used in his photography career and listen to real recordings of the projects undertaken. Appropriately sitting beside the railroad tracks in downtown Roanoke, the museum is only a few blocks from the Art Museum of Western Virginia.
